Merry Merry!

I am the worst blogger in the world.  I figure who wants to hear me dither on about things.  But today was so beautiful I had to show you.  I went out to shovel just as the sun broke through.  We have had at least a foot of new lovely snow.  The groomers at the ski hill and on the trails will be working like mad to get everything ship shape for the holidays.  May everyone have a healthy and happy holiday.  Safe journey for all who are on the move.

Take a Deep Breath

This is my favourite time of year.  Everything is starting to shoot, the birds are returning, including the White Crowned Sparrow with it's amazing song, and the air is sooooo sweet.  I follow @The GirdTO on twitter to keep up with all things Toronto (and the daughter) and I often feel a bit wistful thinking of all the goings on that I miss, but then I step outside and take a deep breath and remember why I love the Madawaska Valley and now call it home.

Pajama Party Weekend

Girl's Weekend has just ended for this great bunch of women who have been coming to the inn for the past five years to spend some quality time together.
They are now adding a second generation as daughters are welcomed with
open arms once they turn nineteen.  I love it!

They arrive by car and sled and take over the inn.  P.J.'s are required attire and laughing the main pastime. Throw in some sledding,  shopping, saoking, sipping and good food.....well what more is there. Oh yes...talking!  The perfect girls weekend.

Thanks girls for sharing your fun, and for my lovely flowers.
Hope all arrived home safely and hope you and yours stay
well and happy till next time.

Good to Go

No matter what your winter pleasure it's all good to go now.  Xcountry, downhill, snowshoeing or snowmobiling.  We had about 8" fall yesterday and last night and today dawned so beautiful it hurt.

Play in the snow then soak in the hot tub!

Declared a Success

Well we have declared our first efforts a success.  Both very yummy. A bit more fat in the mix the next time (we had made them quite lean) as they are perhaps a bit dry. When spring comes I predict the husband will be combining his two new toys and "smoked" sausage will be in our future. Something to look forward to.

Sausage Making 101

In the Autumn, the husband happened to mention that he was thinking about trying to make his own sausage. Now fortunately or unfortunately, he made this utterance within earshot of "the children" (who are really only children to us.) Fast forward to Christmas and what is under the tree but the sausage making attachments for our Kitchenaid. The husband, I am sure, had long since forgotten any thoughts of sausage making but... you opened your mouth Mr. Fortune so now it is sausage making for you!

Today was the day.  Industrial amounts of pork, salt and spices hit the kitchen along with the sausage casings (which take some getting use to!) Long story short it has been a lot of fun with great results.  One batch of Italian (with fennel seed which I love) and one batch of savoury breakfast sausage with homegrown sage and summer savoury.  It has been a long but satisfying day.  Tomorrow will be the taste test.  Stay tuned.

Snowmobile Trails Open - Limited

It was a lovely sight yesterday to see the groomer come in.  Thanks to all those who cleaned up after the ice storm. Nice snow again the night before last.
